The President of Ukraine has imposed sanctions on employees of the Russian special services Thursday.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy published a decree which would impose sanctions on 28 employees, 23 of who are Russian citizens and 5 who are Ukraine. The decree will ban them from using their assets in the country. It will also cover transferring capital or “taking part in privatization auctions.” The President enacted this decree based on the recommendation of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
Measures were introduced by the NSDC in August, imposing sanctions on legal entities, including Crimean judges. The reasoning behind the sanctions was to stop those who were “active participants in hybrid aggression.” The NSDC has also instructed Europe and the United States about the application of the sanctions and asked to impose similar measures against the Russian employees.
Further sanctions have also already been imposed in Ukraine, following the collapse of relations between Kiev and Moscow. This conflict is part of ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine over the Crimea Peninsula since Russia occupied the land in 2014.
