Ninety-two people have been killed in the nationwide protests that were sparked following the death of Mahsa Amini, Iran Human Rights reported on Sunday.
Amini was arrested by the Tehran police on September 14 for wearing an “improper” hijab. Amini’s family found out she had been taken to the hospital in a coma two hours later. After two days, the Tehran police reported that she had died in custody. Protests have been ongoing since her death.
It was further reported that 41 people were killed at a protest on September 30. People had gathered after Friday prayer in Zahedan to protest against the rape of a Baluch 15-year-old girl by Chabahar’s police chief. This brings the total number of people killed by Islamic Republic authorities across Iran to 133 people.
Iran Human Rights has condemned the killing of protesters and said they consider it “to amount to crimes against humanity.” Amnesty International has also called for action to be taken against Iran in wake of the violence that has ensued following Amini’s death.
