The Iranian Ministry for Foreign Affairs released its annual report on human rights violations committed by the United States and United Kingdom on Sunday, alleging both domestic and international violations.

Iran has released these critical assessments since 2012, when the Iranian Parliament passed a resolution requiring its Ministry for Foreign Affairs to monitor and report on human rights violations in the US and UK. This year’s report references many issues addressed in last year’s edition.

The 2025 report on the US focused on domestic human rights violations occurring through widespread gun violence and unlawful use of force by police officers, both of which specifically affect minorities. The report also claimed that the interventionist and militaristic strategies of the US government “demonstrate how human rights have been exploited as a tool to secure its geopolitical and economic interests.” Iranian authorities argued that the US government’s approval of the Israeli “Zionist regime in systemically violating the human rights of Palestinians and perpetrating genocide in Gaza” illustrates this interventionist tendency.

The UK report emphasized domestic and international violations as well, centering similarly on unlawful police force, discrimination against minorities, and complicity with the genocide in Gaza. Domestically, the report referenced violations of the right to peaceful protest through alleged misuse of counter-terrorism measures. Internationally, the ministry condemned UK practice of limiting human rights enforcement to within the country’s borders, emphasizing the inability for citizens abroad to seek legal action against UK-based businesses operating abroad.

Reflecting the geopolitical struggle between Iran and western nations, the report mirrors periodic US and UK assessments that detail concerns over alleged human rights violations committed by the Iranian government.

The US has annually published a country-specific human rights practices report on Iran for the last two decades. The most recent report, published in 2024, charged significant human rights abuses in Iran, including “arbitrary or unlawful killings; disappearances; torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment” and many others.

Likewise, the UK has recently released several reports and speeches regarding alleged human rights violations in Iran. In March, a speech given by the UK Parliament’s Representative, Simon Manley, to the UN and the World Trade Organization detailed how the Iranian government has bolstered a system that targets women, girls, and religious minorities, leading to human rights violations relating to these groups.
