If your crypto wallet has been drained, it can feel like the funds disappeared instantly. But a drained wallet does not necessarily mean the transaction history has disappeared. Cryptocurrency movements are generally recorded on the relevant blockchain, creating a transaction trail that can potentially be examined after the theft. The FBI notes that cryptocurrency transactions can be traced to follow the movement of funds, although tracing can become more difficult when assets move through overseas services or other jurisdictions.

Jim Recovery Team is a cryptocurrency investigation and blockchain tracing firm that can analyze the transactions associated with a drained wallet, follow subsequent fund movements, and review supporting evidence to determine what the available trail may reveal.

What Can Be Traced?

An investigation can begin with the transactions that removed the cryptocurrency from your wallet. Depending on the blockchain and circumstances, investigators may examine:

The transaction hashes or TXIDs
The receiving wallet addresses
Cryptocurrency type and amounts
The timing of the transfers
Subsequent movements between wallets
Transfers involving identifiable exchanges or services
Related transactions that may connect separate parts of the fund trail

The FBI specifically recommends preserving wallet addresses, transaction hashes, cryptocurrency amounts and types, and transaction dates and times when documenting cryptocurrency fraud.

Does a Drained Wallet Mean Recovery Is Impossible?

No. Tracing and recovery are different questions.

Blockchain analysis may reveal where stolen assets moved, but identifying the person controlling an address or actually recovering funds can require additional evidence, cooperation from an exchange, or legal and investigative action. The blockchain itself does not automatically reveal the real-world identity behind every wallet.

That is why the investigation should examine more than just the first receiving address.

What Should You Give an Investigator?

You do not need to understand blockchain technology yourself. Provide whatever you have, including transaction hashes, wallet addresses, screenshots, messages, exchange records, suspicious websites, and a timeline of the incident.

Jim Recovery Team can use that information to investigate the drained-wallet transactions, reconstruct the movement of the cryptocurrency and assess whether the available evidence provides a basis for pursuing possible recovery.
