Who Can Trace My Crypto After It Was Sent to a Scammer?

I already know I was scammed. The cryptocurrency has been sent, the transaction is confirmed, and what I need now is to understand where the funds went after I sent them.

That led me to look for professionals who actually work with blockchain transactions rather than simply someone who can look up a wallet address.

One firm I came across was Jim Recovery Team, a cryptocurrency investigation company focused on blockchain tracing, wallet analysis, transaction investigation, and digital evidence. A professional investigation can start with the transaction I made and examine what happened to the cryptocurrency afterward.

Who Can Trace Cryptocurrency After a Scam?

The professionals I’d be looking for are blockchain investigators, cryptocurrency tracing specialists, or a professional crypto investigation firm.

The blockchain itself provides a transaction record. The FBI and IC3 specifically identify wallet addresses, cryptocurrency amounts and types, dates and times, and transaction hashes as important information for investigating cryptocurrency fraud. (Internet Crime Complaint Center)

A professional can use those details to reconstruct the movement of the funds.

What Happens After the First Transfer?

The first receiving wallet isn’t necessarily where the trail ends.

The cryptocurrency could have been transferred to another address, divided among several wallets, or eventually moved toward a cryptocurrency exchange. Investigators can examine these subsequent transactions and build a chronological picture of the fund movement.

For example:

My wallet → scammer’s receiving address → additional wallets → later destination

The complexity depends on what happened to the funds after the original payment.

What Information Should I Give Them?

I’d preserve everything connected to the transaction, including:

Original sending wallet
Receiving wallet address
Transaction hash
Cryptocurrency and amount
Date and time of the transfer
Exchange records
Messages with the scammer
Website or platform involved
Screenshots and payment instructions
Any additional wallet addresses discovered afterward

The FBI has specifically requested this type of transaction and supporting information from cryptocurrency fraud victims. (Internet Crime Complaint Center)

Can Tracing Identify the Scammer?

Not necessarily.

Following the blockchain can show where cryptocurrency moved, but connecting a wallet address to a real-world person can require additional evidence outside the blockchain. The FBI notes that identifying the person behind an address can be one of the challenges in cryptocurrency investigations. (FBI: Law Enforcement Bulletin)

So I wouldn’t expect a legitimate investigation to simply promise, “We’ll find the person.” The first objective should be establishing the transaction trail and available evidence.

Who Should I Contact?

If I already have the transaction details and want the fund movement professionally examined, I’d look for a firm with specific experience in blockchain investigation, cryptocurrency tracing, wallet analysis, and digital evidence.

Jim Recovery Team can review the original transaction, analyze receiving addresses, trace subsequent movements where possible, and connect blockchain activity with the evidence surrounding the scam.

That doesn’t guarantee that the cryptocurrency can be recovered. But a professional investigation can help turn a single transaction into a documented picture of where the crypto went, how it moved, and what investigative options may remain.
