The UK Supreme Court ruled Wednesday to withhold key evidence from the US government in the trial of two Islamic state detainees because President Donald Trump has not assured that the detainees will not be executed.
The detainees in question are known as the Beatles. They are former British citizens who are accused of killing people for ISIS. The evidence from the British government is key to proving that the men who are detained are the so-called Beatles since they used masks.
Judge Kerr stated that “No further assistance should be given for the purpose of any proceedings in the United States of America without the appropriate death penalty assurances.” The main reasoning behind this is that the British government has abolished the death penalty so they cannot support the trials if the US government is seeking the death penalty.
The families of the detainees have urged the US government to consider seeking life in prison because they believe the Beatles should be held responsible for the murders they committed.
