A UK High Court on Thursday ruled in favor of the parents of Tafida Raqeeb who wanted to keep their 5-year-old on life support.
The parents claim that taking their daughter off of life support would conflict with their religious beliefs as Muslims.
Tafida has brain damage, is likely in a minimally conscious state and has a “negligible” chance at regaining any level of awareness.
The ruling stated that the hospital in Italy where the parents would like to transfer Tafida offered substantially the same level of care though doctors there believe that they can get Tafida home and on a ventilator.
This all first started in February when Tafida came into her parents room complaining of a headache and subsequently collapsed. She has been in a coma since then.
Save for any appeal, the parents hope to have their daughter transferred in the next 10 days.
