US President Donald Trump took official measures Friday to prevent further outbreak of COVID-19 by restricting the southern border of the US.
Trump said that the US and Mexico have agreed to temporarily restrict nonessential travel across their shared border in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. These restrictions, which will begin on Saturday at midnight, will not affect commercial goods transported on trains and trucks, legal residents, people with legal work permits or people traveling for medical education reasons.
However, the travel restrictions will expedite the administration’s stance on immigration, and migrants in general. Trump’s official White House website stated that, “The United States will expeditiously return aliens who cross between ports of entry or are otherwise not allowed to enter the country, as the facilities in which these aliens would normally be held cannot support quarantine for the time needed to assess potential cases.”
