A Russian investigative journalist Monday wrote on social media that Russia’s securities agencies froze his bank accounts and that he was placed on Russia’s wanted list.

Andrei Soldatov said that the case against him was initiated on March 1, 2022 and is presumably being investigated by the Investigative Committee of Russia. Russia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs registry states he “is wanted for violating an article of the Criminal Code” but did not disclose the charge.

Soldatov is the current editor in chief of Agentura.ru, which is a Russian website that focuses on the activities of Russia’s intelligence agencies.

Last month a Moscow court issued an arrest warrant for Maikl Naki, a well-known journalist, which accused Naki “of distributing false information about the Russian military as Moscow’s war against Ukraine continues.”

Across Russia, the “[m]edia across the country have been instructed by the government that Russia’s actions in Ukraine cannot be called a ‘war’ or an ‘invasion,’ and should instead be referred to as a ‘special military operation.'”
