Peru’s Constitutional Court declared Tuesday that President Martín Vizcarra’s September 30 closure of Congress was legal.

Congress was closed mainly because of Vizcarra’s rocky relationship with them. They attempted to defy him by removing him but ultimately failed when his replacement quit within 36 hours. This lead to the case being taken to court which passed down it’s ruling today.

It was by a 4-3 decision that the Constitutional court declared the closure legal, citing the lack of confidence from the President as enough reason for closing down Congress. Vizcarra took to twitter to celebrate the win. He declared the chapter of uncertainty closed and urged the Peruvian people to continue to work together with him in this new year.
