Pakistani police Friday raided the house of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and former Chief Minister of Punjab. At his residence in Lahore, 500 police and anti-corruption personnel attempted to arrest Elhai, but failed to do so after facing resistance from his supporters. Following the events of the raid, police registered a case against Elhai on terrorism charges for the alleged violent actions of his supporters.
The operation lasted around five hours, with an armoured vehicle being used to break through the gates of Elhai’s residence. Khan, who is a strong ally of Parvez Elahi, finished his statement by announcing he will be issuing a “roadmap” following the event, that explains how to “stand up against this destruction of our Constitution and democracy.”We are seeing the dismantling of democracy in Pak before our eyes. There is no respect for Constitution, SC verdicts, or fundamental rights of the ppl – only law of jungle and facism . . . They attacked my house & now same being done to Pervez Elahi by cabal of crooks & handlers. Never seen such barbarism even in Musharraf’s martial law . . . enough is enough.
