The former president of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, was in court on Monday facing charges of corruption and allegations that he accepted millions from Saudi Arabia.

Al-Bashir was ousted from the office of president in April as the result of months of protests. He is facing charges in connection with USD $113 million dollars worth of Sudanese and foreign currency found at his home, as well as incitement and involvement with killing protesters. An investigator testified on Monday that al-Bashir had admitted to receiving $90 million from Saudi Arabia.

The next hearing is scheduled for Saturday.

In addition to these charges, al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for allegations surrounding atrocities in Darfur in the 2003 war. Amnesty International is calling for the authorities in Sudan to hand al-Bashir over to the ICC.

Following the ouster of al-Bashir as president, a new coalition government has been established in Sudan. The ruling military council and civilian opposition alliance have signed a power sharing agreement.
