Amnesty International said Thursday that since December 2025, Israeli authorities have intentionally implemented measures aimed at dispossessing Palestinians in the West Bank and rendering the occupied territory’s annexation irreversible.
Senior Director for Research, Advocacy, Policy and Campaigns Erika Guevara-Rosas said the lack of international accountability, global impunity, and continued US support have emboldened Israeli authorities to escalate actions on the ground.
Guevara-Rosas stated:
Guevara-Rosas further alleged that Israeli authorities are disregarding their obligations as an occupying power under international law, which prohibits the annexation and establishment of settlements in occupied territories. She said that the measures are in defiance of the advisory opinions issued by the International Court of Justice in 2004 and 2024, the latter of which found Israel’s presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory unlawful. Guevara-Rosas stated, “Yet instead of complying, Israel has simply invented new ways to violate international law, further entrenching its unlawful occupation and apartheid – while the international community continues, at best, to pay lip service to Palestinians’ rights and taken no effective action.”
The UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, recently condemned Israel’s decision to expand land expropriation in the West Bank, warning that the attempts toward annexation will only further erode Palestinian rights.
Albanese added, “States must therefore cut diplomatic, economic, and military ties with a state that has chosen to commit international violations and crimes as policy,” noting that such measures are necessary to “restore credibility” for both international law and the UN.
The United Nations Human Rights Council also warned in a new report that Israeli policies in the West Bank, including what it described as the systematic, unlawful use of force by Israeli forces and unlawful demolitions of Palestinian homes, aim to uproot Palestinian communities.
