Three Hong Kong pro-democracy activists pleaded guilty Monday for their involvement in the 2019 anti-government protests. Joshua Wong, Ivan Lam and Agnes Chow pleaded guilty just before Wong and Lam were scheduled to go on trial.

Chow, who had pleaded guilty before Wong and Lam, posted on her Facebook page, “If I am sentenced to prison this time, it will be the first time in my life that I have been in jail. .. Although I am mentally prepared, I still feel a little bit scared. However, compared to many friends, I have suffered very little. When I think of this, I will try my best to face it bravely.”

The three activists were part of the Demosisto political party and helped to rally thousands of protestors outside of police headquarters to protest excessive force against pro-democracy demonstrators in June 2019.

The guilty pleas come a week after the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK issued a joint statement condemning China for refusing to allow elected legislators in Hong Kong to come to power.
